About Fred Sweisthal
Fred's love of hunting and the outdoors has been in his DNA from the beginning. His first memories include making bows and arrows, and playing with slingshots and BB guns. When he got older he bought his first deer rifle - a .270 caliber Remington model 700 ADL and harvested his first whitetail deer. But when his older brother got him interested in archery, he realized he was born to be a bow hunter, and hung up his rifle.
When he was almost 20, Fred took his first hunting trip outside of Texas - to Colorado. He harvested a Mule Deer on a 90-yard walking shot with a bow. That experience raised the bar on how he felt about hunting.
At the age of 26, with $25 and the clothes on his back, he moved to Alaska and took a job working at a tannery. His love of the outdoors and hunting became even more of a passion in his life during those years in the 49th state. He lived there for the next 10 years, buying the tanning business within his first year there.
As his tanning business grew, he realized he needed to relocate to an area with lower costs and higher demand for his expertise so his business could continue to flourish.
In October of 1990, Fred moved back home to Texas and opened Quality Fur Dressing the following year in Spring, just north of Houston. Over the past 27 years, he has continued to grow as a hunter and outdoorsman, along with growing his business. He still hunts in Texas, but loves traveling to remote and exotic places as well.
Last year Fred expanded his love of hunting yet again and founded Quality Hunts. Because of his personal experiences with all kinds of outfitters and hunts, he understands what hunters are looking for when they want to book their dream hunt.
