These are 7-day hunts. Arrive in camp mid-afternoon on arrival day, hunt 7-full days, depart in the morning of departure day.
Our main camp is situated in prime moose habitat, surrounded by chains of meadows and swamps in every direction. The camp is remote and isolated, requiring a 2 hours trip on very rough roads to reach it. Our moose hunts are done on horseback and most of our moose have been taken within a couple of hours ride from camp. During the pre-rut and the rut, hunts can be incredibly exciting when the bulls answer to the call. This is a 9-day Moose hunt (1 day in/out - 7 days hunting) Spots for moose hunts are more limited than ever and are spoken for quickly. We are still booking for 2019 but be prepared to book well in advance. Hunts are usually one or two hunters in camp, with the outfitter guiding, either 2 on 1 or 1 on 1 can be negotiated.
Our routine is to get into camp on the first day of the hunt, get situated, get the horses saddled and fit the hunter so he is comfortable and if daylight allows it, get out for a little afternoon hunt. The next morning we are up before daylight, horses saddled and breakfast done before daybreak and ride out of camp just as it gets light. We will ride usually less than an hour to either a meadow, swamp or lake, tie up the horses and then sneak quietly in the edge of the timber and glass for moose. The outfitter will make cow calls, trying to entice the bulls to come out of the timber. Nothing is more exhilarating then listening to a huge bull coming to call, grunting the whole way. Depending on sign and activity we will stay there for an hour or two. If nothing shows up in the first spot, then we continue down the trail to another spot and try again. We will continue this all day and return to camp in the late afternoon. We will have supper and if the client is keen we will take him out for a walk after supper to check the meadows close to camp. We continue in this manner all week traveling in different directions until we have harvested a moose.
The outfitter is an avid bowhunter, and has personally taken many animals with his bow and is an official measurer for Pope & Young and Boone & Crockett.
